The roaming ”Nuns on the Bus” reached Tallahassee on Tuesday in an organized thank-you to U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio for his support of comprehensive immigration reform. Sister Simone Campbell said the 10 Catholic nuns on the 15-state tour, which began in Connecticut this past month to end in San Francisco in mid-June, is aimed at rallying public support for a “path to citizenship” and family unity in dealing with the estimated 11 million undocumented workers in the country. She said faith, union and civil rights organizations were trying to encourage conservative lawmakers like Rubio — himself the son of Cuban immigrants — to stand strong in the face of expected tough House opposition to any changes that many Republicans label “amnesty.”
